– “Respect”, na voz de Aretha Franklin, é eleita a melhor música de todos os tempos
Lançada em 1967, dois anos depois da versão original pelo seu autor, o single chegou ao topo da parada e, como diz o texto celebratório, estabeleceu Aretha como a Rainha do Soul, além de ter servido de cartão de visitas para “I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You”, sua estreia na gravadora Atlantic.
A canção também sempre ressoou com militantes de diversas causas sociais. “Respect” foi cantada no funeral de Marthin Luther King e também foi adotada como hino por feministas e do movimento a favor das liberdades civis.
Outras músicas de forte apelo militante também apareceram nas demais posições de destaque: “Fight The Power“, clássico dos rappers do Public Enemy (1989) ficou em segundo lugar e se mostrou uma grande surpresa, já que em 2004 ela apareceu apenas no 330° posto.
“A Change is Gonna Come” (1964), do soulman Sam Cooke, também subiu no novo ranking indo do 12° para o terceiro lugar.
“Like A Rolling Stone“, de Bob Dylan, teve uma pequena queda entre as duas enquetes. Em 2004 ela foi a número 1 e agora está em quarto.
Saindo dos anos 60, o Nirvana completou o top 5 com “Smells Like Teen Spirit“, de 1991 também com melhora de desempenho – antes, ela ficou em nono.
Outra mudança curiosa se deu com a música dos Beatles melhor classificada. “Strawberry Fields Forever“, subiu do 76° para o oitavo lugar, enquanto “Hey Jude” despencou do oitavo para o 89°.
A lista também traz um bom número de canções mais recentes que já garantiram o seu lugar entre as mais clássicas da música pop, em todas as suas vertentes: “Get Ur Freak On” (2001), de Missy Elliott, foi do 466° para o oitavo lugar e “Hey Ya!“, lançada em 2003 pelo Outkast, disparou da 182ª colocação para a décima. As músicas mais novas do top 50 foram “Royals“, de Lorde (2013), no 30° posto, e “Alright” (2015), de Kendrick Lamar apareceu em 45°.
Uma única música brasileira está presente no top 500, trata-se de “Ponta de Lança Africano (Umbabarauma), que Jorge Ben Jor lançou em 1976.
